Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante is emotionally sophisticated yet charming, Dohnányi’s sextet incorporates musical fashions into an idiom of his own, while a new work by Paul Stanhope attests to his reputation as a quietly revolutionary composer.

Mozart: Sinfonia Concertante K. 364
Stanhope: New commission from Ars Musica Australis
Dohnányi: Sextet in C major Op. 37

2. TOP OF THE POPS

Sunday 29th May 4pm

Featuring guest artist Simon Tedeschi / piano

Memorable melodies and familiar favourites. The composers featured in Sydney Omega Ensemble’s Top of the Pops concert have each left their imprint on the collective musical consciousness. Beethoven’s inspired Clarinet Trio and Schubert’s captivating Trout Quintet have both withstood the test of time, while Eliza’s Aria, created by Elena Kats-Chernin as a celebration of a young girl’s faith in the good of the world, has resonated with musicians and audiences across the world.

Kats-Chernin: Eliza’s Aria
Beethoven: Clarinet Trio
Schubert: Trout Quintet

3. MENAGE A TRIOS

Sunday 31st July 4pm

Do three make a crowd? From the vivid moods of Bruch’s eight pieces for clarinet, viola and piano to Brahms’s reflective elegy, this concert explores the dynamic relationships formed within a trio. Favoured by composers since the late Baroque, Australian composer Nicole Brady brings new vitality to the form, placing it in a contemporary setting.

Brady: New commission from Ars Musica Australis
Bruch: 8 Pieces for piano, viola and clarinet, Op. 83
Brahms: Horn Trio in E flat major, Op. 40

CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS
“The ever-popular Sydney Omega Ensemble returns with another of their brilliant programs. The lion, the tortoise, the swan – and even fossils – are just some of the creatures brought to life in French composer Camille Saint-Saëns’ whimsical work Carnival of the Animals. With readings by actor, John Derum, of Ogden Nash’s nonsense verse, this will be a light-hearted concert not to be missed.”

The concert will be preceded by a champagne reception and private viewing of the Eikoh Hosoe exhibition. Doors open at 7pm. Seating commences at 7.45pm.
